MY COMICS, YOU MUST READ THEM

Well, when they're done.

I've been working more on my latest comic project:

I've gotten the pages sketched out and am going to start inking this week. I'll be posting a few pages (probably between 3-5) on my website in a few weeks, so make sure to bookmark it! My website can be found here: www.lifeofgeek.com

I also have a fanpage on facebook, so if you want to see random updates of work (related to my comics) and just general updates of progress, feel free to fan that! You can find that link here: Life of Geek Facebook Page

I also have a twitter account because I was sort of pressured into making it, though as far as I know it's just updated from my facebook, so you'll end up finding more there anyway. I believe my tag or username on Twitter is lifeofgeek also if you feel the need to look me up there.

Add me, spread my link, spread the love, spread my comic!

Updates!

Thanks anyone that responded to my logo question on any site I posted on, the feedback was pretty much what I wanted to hear and was extremely helpful! It's still between a few, but I plan on revamping them a tad and then re-posting them for further feedback, so look out for that.

Along with that, here's an update on something I posted a few days ago:
Edited the back a bit, made it a little more interesting. also made some of the spacing more uniform so it looks more even. I also fixed the silly transparency issue I had on the dragon's neck bling (could see white instead of the background color). So yeah, fun times. Most stuff once I scan it tomorrow!

LOGO VOTE GO!

Hey, I need to pick a logo for my site and I really want to know which you guys think represents me best. A few notes.

1) They WILL be redrawn to look better since some are old or just sketches to get an idea of what I might do. (Especially #3)

2) Yeah, that's pretty much it, number is above it's corresponding logo.

So leave a comment with the number you like and (optionally) comment on why you like that one. Thanks!

Shtuff

Hey kids!

Check this out! Life of Geek!

The front page is still really empty, as is the news page, but I'm slowly getting a gallery up there, so keep an eye on it for more of my stuff!

As a reward for ignoring that first part, here's more school work:

Book cover. Yes, the text sucks, but I was never good at rendering type by hand. Especially last minute and without reference. Sorry, I'm a photoshop girl.

Check out my site, more work to come!

Domain and Cards

First of all. I bought a domain name (yay!) so I'm in the process of getting that ready (and may not post as much art here once that's up, but we'll see since this is kind of nice as a "look at stuff I've just completed" type deal). So yeah, updates on that when I actually get it more organized and website-y.

And then one arts!
Another image from the class with the cell phone. Had to make the front and back of a playing card. Probably could have added some more patterning to the back, but it was already pretty complicated with the way the building in the center was so I didn't want it to come out too busy.

Some more stuff later when I empty the images off my camera!

Finished products! Hoorah!
Big jump from the thumbnails I posted a few weeks ago to now, eh? I planned on posting the comp I got to render by hand (that skull was a party to render), but I never got around to scanning it so, finished piece, nyah! The work in this class won't be as fun/cool after this assignment, sorry :P.
And the cell phone! Some of the highlights and shadows look blocky, but that's the style I started shading it as so I suppose it fits, just don't look TOO closely at it.

That's it for now, expect more work.

Oh yeah, I also own my own website now. www.lifeofgeek.com. Nothing's up there yet because I am busy and don't remember anything about html, but there will be things there eventually!

more learnin's

Once upon a time my boyfriend and I had an anniversary and decided to get a kitten. We found the perfect little snowshoe/siamese mix and we named him Tanuki due to the adorable little mask around his eyes. We loved him so.
Then one day, he ate twelve other kittens or something and suddenly weighs a jillion pounds. We still love him, though, even if he is too fat to lick his own bottom. Oh well, now he's like a real baby.

Anyway, this story has a point. I love my cat and other cats and cats in general. So when my next assignment for illustrative painting was to produce an album cover the first thing that popped into my head was Jets to Brazil which is not only my favorite band, but is loaded with songs with cat imagery! I took that opportunity to be obsessed about my big fat furry baby some more and made him a rock star:
A few choices based on song lyrics.

this cigarette it could seduce
a nation with its smoke
crawling down my tired throat
scratches part of me that's purring

Maybe I took it too literally with the smoking cat, but I found it funny.

deep in the flat with the technicolor cat

He's more fun in blue, I think

Those are the basics, not to mention songs like Cat Heaven which, come on, title. I also know that Mid-day Anonymous is not actually on this album, but I don't care, it's Jets. Orange Rhyming Dictionary isn't even on this album and that's the freakin' title (notice my super suble and oddly tiny orange book on the nightstand on the back cover, I'll just cover my ass by saying it's a pocket dictionary).

Anyway, I had fun with this project. Expect a few more this week when I get things completed!

super exciting

Tracing cell phones in illustrator is fuuuun. It's a little lumpy since I saved the edited version only after I started coloring it (which I'll post once I'm done). Not much else until I get a few things finished and/or photographed. SO ENJOY THIS. DO IT.

learnings

School has started back up again and thus my time is now taken up with homework instead of videogames. Sigh. (Though I still play video games, just very rushed and at 11 pm). Time to post the fruits of my first two weeks. Or at least the things that aren't naked men.
These are thumbnails for a poster I need to make. I had to dedicate it to an artist that really inspired/s me. I couldn't really think of an ARTIST artist (Van Gogh etc.) so I somehow talked my teacher into letting me use the creators of The Venture Brothers. Hey, I did watch Scooby Doo and Johnny Quest and the like as a kid and I do enjoy the style the show is done it, so I found it fitting. Feedback would be appreciated on what the two people that read this like, though it's more to see how many people agree with the one I've picked.

This....well, is a master copy for my illustrative painting class. It probably would have come out much much better if I actually knew how to use water colors, though I'm actually fairly pleased with it considering I used a medium I'd never touched before. Don't look up the original, mine looks better that way. (Original by Edward and Maurice Detmold).

More to come as I make weird things.

Aaaand finished

There were a few more details I could have added, but I was running out of time and couldn't, for the life of me, find a white paint pen or even white out. Oh well, I'm still really pleased with how this came out.

It's taken over my life

WIP. Hopefully get it colored in the next couple of weeks. Y'know, before I start school and using it as a gift is useless.

Small Update

A few knit things because that's all I really have pictures of now since I don't really have a scanner where I'm staying.

A picture of me sewing it up because I thought it looked like I was doing surgery and it was silly.

And the finished product! My good friend's character, Martini. She's a radioactive cyclopse jackalope. Or something. I think she's cute and was sad to see her go. Especially since she terrified my mom.

More pictures when I get access to a scanner!

Just One Thing For Now....

I just wanted to post this with more elaboration because I'm super proud of it.

This is a gradient I made in my rendering class. Know how? I took a prismacolor pencil and held it by the far end with two fingers. I then VERY LIGHTLY placed the end of the pencil on the illustration board and brush the surface with the pencil in large ellipses. So lightly that I could hear the pencil, but see no lines. I then did this for at least 10 hours until I produced this. This is why I am so proud of it. Expect me to post more of my work from this class because, believe it or not, I am REALLY excited about what I'm going to learn to do in it, even if it does take me hours.

Just as I Promised

Sketches! Just as I promised. I do what I say sometimes! A mix of stuff. Don't know if I'll finish any of it, but maybe.

I saw The Spirit a few weeks ago. CJ is The Spirit of laps. Plus he'd look adorable in a tie.

A sketch of Fen. It was going to be so I could get a better idea of what I want to do with his tattoo, but I turned his torso too much. So it's just him looking sexy or sly or silly or some other s-word.

And Syd. Because she hasn't been getting enough love lately. And I was feeling a little down, so emo sketches are bound to happen.

And now more WoW art. The wolvar are adorable anthropomorphic wolverine things. And I wanted to draw one. So I did. A little unfinished right now, I was drawing it in class and never got around to finishing it.

And some anatomyish sketches for something I want to draw in a picture for Scott. It would have helped tremendously to actually look at an image of the monster, but we were watching CSI and it felt rude to open the game while kinda cuddling and watching TV. So I improvised.

Again, reference would have helped. This was the idea for the image, though I might not run with it as I don't really like how the Protodrake came out. It was more of a general pose sketch than anything.

I really hate this, but I said I would post sketches so I just uploaded everything. It was going to be a Christmas picture with mistletoe of my character, Irr, and Scott's character, but I was drawing at a miniature golf course and didn't have a table and oh god I couldn't get Irr's nose to not look horrendous, so I (obviously) didn't get very far in this. Plus it was after Christmas so the effort felt pointless.

Baby talbuks! I loves Loki, the little talbuk I crocheted a few months back (I've still been meaning to make him a friend, but I am incredibly lazy and most of my yarn is at home). So I drew an angry little baby talbuk. I actually really like how this came out and may finish it.

And another Christmas/winter picture. I thought it'd be silly to have Irr warming herself over one of her fire totems, but I didn't have a lot of reference while drawing this (another image that came out while sitting around at the miniature golf place), but I might actually finish this one. It's past Christmas and is never really winter in California, but I like the idea and how it's been coming out so far, so I'll consider it.

That's it for now. I see about posting more when I draw more! I may also have some crochet/knitting stuff up too as I have been busy, hehe.

I draw things sometimes

I have stuff to post, I swear. I just need to take pictures of it. Until then, enjoy my perspective final. And the lineart to a picture I'd like to color.

This is the sketch I'd like to color. It started off as a "Woo I hit 80!" picture, but turned into a "my life is sad because I'm too lazy to get rep for this mount" picture, though I shall have it someday! I really like how this turned out. Especially the face. I especially like that I learned that hippogryphs have really creepy legs. Now you will look again and they WILL scare you.
That's right, I did more WoW pictures for school. My life is sad. I also considered coloring this, though my teacher told me not to and to just focus on the perspective. I then found out everyone else colored theirs. Oh well! Still like how it came out.

More sketches (yes, mostly WoW-themed) once I get around to taking pictures of them.
